Winnipeg:
Whether you are traveling East or West you will always make your way to Winnipeg. As the geographical centre of Canada, Winnipeg is considered the gateway between Ontario and the West. The city of Winnipeg is a playground of cultural variety, arts, and history. 56 acres of shops, ethnic food kiosks and river walkways, The Forks is the `heart` of Winnipeg. In the community`s early years, this was here the traders and explorers set out for points west, navigating along the banks of the Assiniboine River. It now has a festival market, a children`s museum, paddlewheel boat tours, and of course, a National Historic Site. This is where Winnipeg parties, for holidays and for festivals. In the French Quarter of St. Boniface, the largest French-Canadian community west of Québec, you can explore Promenade Tach, Louis Riel`s tomb and the ruins of a grand basilica. Visit the famous Leo Mol Sculpture Garden where you`ll find a unique collection of religious, wildlife and celebrity bronze sculptures. The gem of Winnipeg is Assiniboine Park, an oasis of well-treed green space on the banks of the Assiniboine River, within not just the urban confines of Winnipeg, but in the wide-open grasslands of the prairie. This park is home to a zoo, a conservatory and formal gardens, a miniature train, picnic grounds, a cricket pitch, and recreational pathways. There are lots of festivals and celebrations in Winnipeg, almost one in every month, but the summer is definitely Festival Time! Relive the drama of the fur trade at Lower Fort Garry where costumed guides recreate 19th-century life in North America`s oldest fur trade fort still intact. Or test your luck at the marvellous Crystal Casino, set on the seventh floor of the Hotel Fort Garry, one of Winnipeg's grandest historical landmarks. Or enjoy a performance by the city`s world-class symphony orchestra or the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Close to Winnipeg is Grand Beach, which could be described as `Winnipeg`s Ocean Playground’. Dunes 12 metres high and kilometres of inviting warm sand beach receive the gentle waves of the great prairie sea. This is Grand Beach, located on Lake Winnipeg - the sixth largest lake in Canada. The beach, considered one of the best in North America, beckons the sun worshipper in all of us. Surrounded by canola and wheat fields, southern Manitoba has some of the most picturesque views in the entire country,
possibly Canada`s most unfairly underrated city Winnipeg has numerous attractions for the visitor. Winnipeg is the largest city of the Prairies and boasts the famous street corner of Portage and Main, known as possibly the `windiest corner on the continent`.
